Product Descriptions
New Fountain Social Studies is a course of seven books written to meet the requirements of the current Social Studies syllabus.Â
The books are practical and activity-oriented. The examples used in them are progressively drawn from the pupils' immediate environment, the entire country, the East African region and the African continent. The language and illustrations used in the books are suitable for both rural and urban pupils. As a result, the Pupil's Book can be used with minimum teacher guidance.Â
The illustrations and the text are colour-assisted to enable pupils to recognise aspects of their surroundings and beyond. They are gender-sensitive and help the learner understand the difficult national, regional and continental social issues. All these create a sense of social awareness and the need to live and work together in our communities.Â
This book has been specially written for Primary Six. The authors examine the pre-colonial and colonial history of the East African region: Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. They look at the coming of foreigners — traders, missionaries and colonialists. They go into the details of the struggles for independence, discuss the East African Community, and provide a context in which to understand political and socio-economic developments in these countries after independence. The climate and physical features are examined in depth. The development process since pre-colonial times is brought into focus.
